Recipe: Cheesy Baked Meatball Subs

Ingredients:

  • 3 hoagie rolls or sub buns
  • 12-15 pre-cooked or homemade meatballs
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing rolls)
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the rolls: Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place them on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush the insides of the rolls with olive oil.
  3. Assemble the subs: Spoon a little marinara sauce onto the bottom of each roll. Place 4-5 meatballs inside each roll. Top with more marinara sauce.
  4. Add the cheese: Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the meatballs. For extra flavor, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the rolls are slightly toasted.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove the subs from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley or basil if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips:

  • For a twist, add sautéed onions, bell peppers, or jalapeños to the subs before baking.
  • Use garlic butter to brush the rolls for extra flavor.
  • Swap mozzarella with provolone or a mix of Italian cheeses for variety.

Enjoy your homemade cheesy meatball subs!
