Recipe: Apple Clafoutis Cake

Ingredients:

  • For the Apples:
    • 3 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
    • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (optional, for coating)
  • For the Batter:
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk
    • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
    • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/4 cup (50g) unsalted butter, melted
  • For Garnish:
    • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease a round baking pan (8 or 9 inches) and arrange the sliced apples evenly in the pan. Optionally, toss the apples in 2 tablespoons of sugar for added sweetness.
  2. Make the Batter:
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Gradually add milk, heavy cream, melted butter, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
    • Sift in the flour and salt, then whisk until a smooth, lump-free batter forms.
  3. Assemble and Bake:
    • Pour the batter evenly over the sliced apples in the pan, ensuring they’re covered.
    • Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the cake to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
    • Serve warm or at room temperature. It pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Enjoy this delightful Apple Clafoutis Cake, a dessert that perfectly balances sweet apples and creamy custard layers!
