Recipe: Cheesy Baked Meatball Subs
Ingredients:
- 3 hoagie rolls or sub buns
- 12-15 pre-cooked or homemade meatballs
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing rolls)
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the rolls: Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place them on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush the insides of the rolls with olive oil.
- Assemble the subs: Spoon a little marinara sauce onto the bottom of each roll. Place 4-5 meatballs inside each roll. Top with more marinara sauce.
- Add the cheese: Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the meatballs. For extra flavor, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the rolls are slightly toasted.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the subs from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley or basil if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
Tips:
- For a twist, add sautéed onions, bell peppers, or jalapeños to the subs before baking.
- Use garlic butter to brush the rolls for extra flavor.
- Swap mozzarella with provolone or a mix of Italian cheeses for variety.
Enjoy your homemade cheesy meatball subs!
