Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Gruyère for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for greasing)
  • Fresh chives (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Thinly slice the potatoes (use a mandoline for even slices).
  1. Make the Cream Mixture:
  • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over low heat. Add minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Stir and set aside.
  1. Assemble the Gratin Cups:
  • Grease a muffin tin generously with butter.
  • Layer the potato slices in each cup, alternating with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheese. Repeat until each cup is nearly full.
  1. Add the Cream Mixture:
  • Pour a small amount of the cream mixture into each cup, just enough to cover the layers.
  1. Bake the Cups:
  • Top each cup with additional shredded cheese.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and bubbly, and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  1. Garnish and Serve:
  • Allow the gratin cups to cool slightly, then gently remove them from the muffin tin.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh chives and serve warm.

These potato gratin cups are perfect for family dinners, holiday feasts, or any time you want a cheesy, comforting side dish!
