Blondies are a rich, chewy dessert bar that resembles brownies but swaps the cocoa for a deliciously sweet, caramelized flavor. Often called the “blonde brownie,” these treats are known for their golden-brown color and soft, buttery texture. Made with brown sugar and vanilla, blondies offer a butterscotch-like flavor that’s satisfying on its own or with mix-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or white chocolate. Whether served warm from the oven or cooled to chewy perfection, blondies are a versatile treat that can be customized to suit any sweet craving!

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

For the Caramel Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Slice and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.

Make the Cake Batter:

In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

Bake:

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool slightly in the pan.

Prepare the Caramel Glaze:

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Glaze the Cake:

Pour the warm caramel glaze over the slightly cooled cake, spreading it evenly.

Let the cake sit for a few minutes to absorb the glaze.

Serve:

Slice and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
