Recipe: Fresh Homemade Salsa

Ingredients:

  • 6 ripe tomatoes, finely diced
  • 1 medium red onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 jalapeños, finely chopped (adjust for heat preference)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tsp sugar (to balance acidity)
  • Optional: 1 cup corn or black beans for variation

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • Wash and dice the tomatoes, onion, and jalapeños. If you prefer a milder salsa, remove the seeds from the jalapeños before chopping.
  2. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, onion, jalapeños, minced garlic, and cilantro.
  3. Season:
    • Add lime juice, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add sugar if the tomatoes are overly acidic.
  4. Jar the Salsa:
    • Transfer the salsa into a clean, airtight jar. Press it down gently to remove air pockets. Seal tightly.
  5. Refrigerate:
    • Let the salsa chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together. It can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
